10 Best Cricketers who went to jail or arrested for shocking reasons

Cricket is one of the most prevalent sports in the world. Cricket is called as Gentleman’s game but some players couldn’t make up to the mark. Luck is not always by the side of the players getting them a bad name on non-cricket related activities and some involving on the field and worst scenarios like match fixing. Here is the list of some best cricketers who have been jailed.

1. Vinod Kambli

You won’t believe Vinod Kambli was arrested in August 2015, along with his wife. His maid has lodged FIR against him and her wife. She told the police that they have assaulted her when she asked for her salary. The left-handed batsman Vinod Kambli beat her up, locked her in a room and warned to stay out of the house. Kamli denied the allegations claiming that the maid did not have proper identity proof.

2. Makhaya Ntini

South African cricketer Makhaya Ntini was arrested in a sexual assault controversy in 1998. He was arrested for raping a women from East London. After spending sometime in jail, Ntini escaped the six year jail term as the court could not prove him guilty. When Ntini was released, the fans of the first black player celebrated outside the court. Ntini has played for Indian Premier League, playing for Chennai Super Kings.

3. Navjot Singh Sidhu

A man was killed in a road rage accident by Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu. He and his friends has a harsh violence on the person who died on the way to hospital and Sidhu was in danger of facing a 10 year sentence.
In 2006, Punjab and Haryana court sentenced his 3 years of imprisonment and Charged Rs.1 Lakh. Later after passing some days in the jail he appealed against the decision which came in his favor ending his punishment.

4. Luke Pomersbach

In 2012, Australian batsman Luke Pomersbach was arrested for molesting a women from the US. It is also said that he had beaten up her boyfriend. He was a part of Vijay Mallya’s Royal Challengers Bangalore and Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab. The left handed batsman pulled out of cricket in 2014, citing physical and mental health issues.

5. Wasim Akram

Wasim Akram along with three players were arrested on the beach of West Indies in 1993 for having an illegal drug. According to the witnesses the arrest was made by an off-duty policeman jogging on the beach. According to the policemen, no drugs were found on the players or anyone in their company but the substances were found close by.

They were released on bail and the hearing of the case was cancelled due to some reasons.

6. Shahadat Hossain

Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain was charged for physically abusing a girl who was appointed as a maid illegaly. This 38-year old cricketer was finally arrested by police, after he managed to hid three weeks, escaping the police.

7. Mohammad Asif

Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Asif was arrested in Dubai on charges of possessing illegal drugs. The cricketer was detained at the Dubai airport. He faced 19 days of detaintion for carrying the drug, though he claimed that he was unawared of it. He told the investigators that he had been using the substance for energy and blood pressure control as prescribed to him by local Hakeem.

8. Rubel Hossain

Rubel Hossain is a Bangladeshi fast bowler who was accused of raping his girlfriend. His girlfriend who was actress by profession said that he didn’t kept his promise of marriage, after getting intimate with her. After the complaint, he was arrested by the police before the start of the ICC World Cup in Australia. Bangladesh Cricket Board saved the cricketer, securing his release on grounds of “national interest”.

9. S Sreesanth

Sreesanth, once stood as India’s premium fast bowler stood behind one of the worst events in Cricket took part in IPL which spoiled the leagues name. He along with other two cricketers namely Ajit Chandila and Ankit Chavan, part of Rajasthan Royals team committed spot fixing and eventually were arrested and sent to jail for interrogation. Few days after been proved to be guilty, they were released with life time ban on them.

10. Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamer

The biggest match fixing plot that shook down the Cricket world took place at Home of Cricket, Lord’s. Captain Butt forced Ameer and Asif to bowl reportedly when he suggested in order to help bookie Mazhar Masjeed who is associated with this incident. Later they were give 10, 7 and 5 years of ban respectively who also faced their life in Jail.
