The decision to demolish these towers was taken because building code norms were violated in its construction. The Supreme Court had said in the comments that there was a “heinous nexus” between the Noida Authority and Supertech to build it. The Supreme Court directed Supertech to demolish the building at its own expense and the entire work would be under the supervision of the Noida Authority.
When was Supertech Twin Towers were made?
In 2004, a proposal was made to set up a ‘Supertech Emerald Court’ housing society in Sector 93A of Noida which was approved by Noida Authority. The building plan showed 14 towers and 9 floors. For this project, the Noida Authority allotted a map of 14 towers to the Group Housing Society. In this, all the towers were passed only up to 9 floors with the ground floor. In the year 2006, on 29th December, the Noida Authority made the first changes in the project of Group Housing Society in a dramatic manner and passed the plan to increase it by 2 floors. Slowly it was increased to 40 floors with a height of 121 metres.
16 meters distance required between two towers
RWA President Uday Bhan Singh told ABP News that under the rules of the National Building Code, a distance of at least 16 meters is required between any two residential towers. In this project, the distance between tower number 1 and twin tower is less than 9 meters.
RWA had approached the Allahabad High Court
After this, the Residents Welfare Association (RWA) of the adjacent society filed an application in the Allahabad High Court calling the construction illegal. Subsequently, in 2014, the court directed the authority to demolish the building at its own expense within 4 weeks. The court also ruled that the builder should refund the payment of flat buyers with an interest rate of 14%.
Supreme Court upheld the decision in 2021
On 31 August 2021, the Supreme Court upheld the order of the Allahabad High Court, upholding the decision to demolish the building. The Supreme Court also found that there was a violation of norms in the construction of the building.
FIR against 24 officers and employees of Noida Authority
